AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low to moderate income. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide and are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code. In Hawaii, we offer in-person tax preparation help to anyone for both federal and Hawaii state taxes.
AARP Foundation serves as a one-stop resource for information. We also offer programs and tools that help older adults make the best decisions about their health and financial security.
Our sites are provided by various sponsors, including libraries, senior and community centers, and churches who allow us to use their facilities at no charge. Tax preparation services are available only during the filing season from late January or early February through mid-April. Most sites are open one to two days per week, although some sites on Kauai are only open a few days during each season. Each site uses computers and tax preparation software to improve the accuracy of our returns and enable us to file both state and federal returns electronically.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is primarily sponsored by the IRS and the AARP Foundation (the nonprofit arm of AARP). AARP membership is not required, either to use our services or to participate as a volunteer.
